(More customer reviews)We ordered 7 of these machines for our school sewing class, and each machine is in use approximately 1-2 hours per week. Upon receipt, one of the machines would not work, and we received a replacement. We have now been using the machines for about 6 weeks, and have consistently had problems with the bobbin casing dislocating and causing the needle to jam or break. The sewing instructor, who has extensive sewing experience, used the word temperamental to describe them and said that they are a nightmare for the frustrated students attempting to learn to sew. They were reasonably priced, but I guess you get what you pay for.

I am mostly just doing clothing touchups-resewing seems on my boyfriends pants. It's easily stored. The directions on setup were mostly clear. the b/w text was a little hard to read. All and all I am very happy with this product. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good machine thats easy to use.

After a long period of procrastination, I broke down and bought this to remedy the growing collection of items that weren't being worn due to this issue.
Below are the pros and cons.
Pros:
Compact and clever folding box
Lots of colors to choose from
Plenty of needles and other accessories
Cons:
Kind of cheap quality (ie: the mini scissors barely work.. the rest isn't bad)
The compact cute box I spoke of came slightly broken( One of the hinges was broken.. BUT that could be due to USPS being careless and throwing things around!) The box still folds fine, just when its open kind of goes off line.
All in all, for $10 bucks you can't complain!

Brother PE770 Embroidery Machine with USB Memory-Stick Compatibility Review

(More customer reviews)I didn't want to spend too much on an embroidery machine before knowing if it would be something that would get a lot of use. Although I don't have a dedicated sewing room I opted against getting a combo embroidery/sewing machine because I already had a regular machine. I spent almost a year researching machines and the major selling point besides price was that it takes a thumb drive. It was really easy to get started without having to study the manual too extensively. I hate anything with a steep learning curve because I have very little time to sew. I don't want to spend my precious time reading the manual. I had been looking at Babylocks, but regardless of what the Babylock sales person said, the Brother machines appear identical and much less expensive. I don't have time to take classes (an advantage of buying from a dealer) so I went for the cheaper Brother. Also, Babylock doesn't sell this model as a stand alone embroidery machine. The PE770 is the same as the BL Ellure Plus without the sewing machine. The set up is really easy and I immediately began stitching out some of the preloaded designs. The stitch quality is great. The preloaded designs are dominated by the "cutsie" stuff that isn't really my cup of tea. Who wants a garment with a teddy bear playing accordion on a tree stump? I downloaded some cool designs from a website and put them on the thumb drive. It was very easy to transfer them to the machine and sew them even though we don't own a PC. My husband found a program for Macs so I was able to see the image and the color chart on the Mac. We can run PC programs on one of our Macs and I will probably get Embird soon. Given the fact that it is a lower-end model there are some downsides. The image is in black & white on the machine's display. Also, the image just looks like a blob. There is very little editing on the machine itself. I am interested to know if the embroidery software will make that less of a problem. I haven't ventured into trying to place designs in an exact spot yet. The embroidery hoop comes with a grid to help with that but I haven't figured out how to do it. Once the thread broke and it was really easy to figure out how to get back to where it was and restitch it. If I end up using it a lot I might eventually consider a fancier machine but I think I made a good choice for a beginner. The automatic threader is great! The seller (Ken's via Amazon) sent some information about different types of stabilizer that was very helpful. I just wish I had more time to play with this fun machine.

Singer Model 7467 Sewing Machine Review

(More customer reviews)I just got this machine a week ago as an early Christmas gift from my hubby. I didn't purchase it from Amazon, because we found a Thanksgiving-week deal at Jo-Ann fabrics, so I picked it up there for about $200.
I am very happy with this machine. It has 66 stitch functions (search google for an image "list" of these, like I did), 3 buttonhole options, and a twin-needle option. I have used about 10 of the decorative stitches already, and I'm incredibly impressed with how well the machine handles them.
This machine is quiet enough that I can have a conversation with my husband while he's 15 feet away, all without either of us raising our voices. It has a smooth feed and doesn't shake (like my last machine did, even in tip-top shape!). It is sleek-looking and it doesn't weigh much, so I can carry it without feeling as though my arm is going to break off.
The reverse stitch is easy to use (the button is right by the needle, so you can hold it as you are feeding the fabric). Bobbins are simple to wind on this machine, and it even has a self-threading needle, but I prefer to thread by hand. I've had no problems here, it works beautifully, but I kind of think it's over-kill as I have no problems with threading my needle. However, I can see how this option may be very helpful to people with unsteady hands.
It's computerized, so it adjusts the thread tension automatically, which is one of the big reasons I was interested in a newer Singer model. With past sewing machines, I've had trouble with thread tension despite constant fidgeting and following the manual's explicit instructions.
Oh, and the bobbin! It's got a drop-in system, which makes it so much easier to thread. No more taking pieces out of my machine to put the bobbin back in! I LOVE THIS MACHINE!
But seriously, I love this machine. I have only had it for a week or so, but I have done a LOT of sewing (Christmas gifts!) and I am in looooooove with this machine. I am absolutely 100% satisfied, and you probably will be too.

I read the manual to learn about its' features and made all the stitches on a scrap of material. The machine is quiet, runs smoothly and makes beautiful stitches, plus it is lightweight and easy to transport.
I was so thrilled that I kept raving, to my husband, about what a great little machine it is. In fact, I liked it so much, I decided to keep it for myself and I had to order another one for my grandchildren.
This machine is way better than many machines that cost much more. I already have a Bernina (expensive) and a Singer Featherweight but I fell in love with this sewing machine. I would recommend it to anyone and, in fact, I did. I told two my friends about it and they each bought one.

It was flimsy, cheap, and a couple metal pieces were starting to rust. Keep in mind that I bought this new. The knob on the side fell off on first use to. Don't waste your money. The biggest challenge is the base threading. Have to jiggle the base bobbin a little before the base thread was being picked up. Also make sure you turn the handwheel following the arrow on the side for the uptake of the base thread.

SINGER Pixie-Plus Sewing Machine Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this machine a few weeks ago and while using it the thread started bunching and getting caught in the bobbin area, I unjammed and checked the tension, it would work for about 1/2 the side of one pant leg and then get bunched again. I have taken the bobbin feeder area apart checked the tension read the VERY SHORT manual that doesnt give you much help...and tried basically everything I can think of including changing the needle...still keeps doing it!! ... oh yeah and the bobbin winder worked once and now it doesnt ever switch the power from the sewing part to the winding the bobbin when you slide the winder over.. so the needle goes up and down and the bobbin stays perfectly still!! ..if anyone has any clues about how to fix these issues please let me know

Singer Futura CE-250 Sewing and Embroidery Machine Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this machine because I wanted to learn to do machine embroidery and didn't want to spend a fortune. I think it is an excellent value. It seems very solid and sewed beautifully with no adjustments straight out of the box. There are sensors in the thread path that are very sensitive and incorrectly report broken thread quite often. As soon as I got the hang of flossing the thread into the sensors this became less of a problem. There are several yahoo groups dedicated to machine embroidery and the nice people there were of great assistance to me as I got started.
Folks like me who are new to machine embroidery should understand that the sewing machine must be physically attached to a computer while you are embroidering. The soft ware running the computer sends the information to the sewing machine one color at a time so don't think that you can download the design and then sew it out later. You are going to need a computer to run the embroidery feature of this machine. I'm using an old computer that was discarded at my office because it was too slow to run large office programs over a network. I took all the other software off and it runs the Future software just fine. If you are going to need to acquire a computer to run your embroidery machine you should consider that cost along with the price of the Futura.
Thread is the paint of embroidery and since it is different than regular thread you are also going to have to make an investment in thread to get started. The price of a spool can vary greatly but if you buy a bunch at one time it can be pricy so think about this to when deciding to make the plunge into machine embroidery.
The difference between the Futura 250 and the Futura 350 is the software. If you plan to create your own embroidery designs you should know that only the basic software comes with the 250 but you can purchase the full software separately. Making clip art into machine embroidery is much more difficult than I first thought and to run the Futura software the sewing machine must be connected to the computer even if you are just working on the design and not doing the actual sewing. There are other software packages that do not have this requirement. You could use them to make the art into embroidery files but you will still need to be connected to your Futura to stitch them out.
I am extremely happy with this product and would recommend it to other people like me who just want to have some fun and spice up their craft and sewing projects. If you are looking to do embroidery professionally then purchase a higher priced and faster machine.

Brother LB6800PRW Computerized Embroidery and Sewing Machine Review

(More customer reviews)I thought I had done my research on this machine but man was I wrong! After I had purchased this machine, I read that there is NO DIFFERENCE between this one and the SE 400 which you can buy for a full one hundred dollars less! The SE 400 is 369.00 right now on Amazon.com. Oh yes, there is a difference, you have the name project runway on your sewing machine and you get the little bag to cart your sewing machine around in. For that, you pay an extra 100 bucks! I never had any intention of using the bag, I would be embarrassed to cart around my sewing machine in a P.R. bag, I bought this one because I was told it was recommended by consumer reports so I looked no further. Don't get me wrong, this machine does what it says and is fun but the hoop is small and you have to buy larger hoops to use the larger designs. I could have spent that extra 100 on larger hoops or the embroidery thread you have to buy. Know also that the thread for an embroidery machine is very expensive. As are the hoops. Plan on spending at the very least another 60.00 on additional hoops and the thread for the machine is 5.25 for a full size spool. The smaller ones are cheaper but you get a lot less thread and the machine uses a lot of thread. Even with only the basic 8 colors, you have 42.00 bucks in thread and don't kid yourself into thinking you can get by with only 8 colors. I would buy this machine again but not the Project Runway machine, it would be the SE 400. I was considering not posting this review because its embarrassing to admit you were too stupid to look a bit further but maybe someone out there will benefit from the expensive lesson I have learned.
