Deni 5500 Scoop Factory Soft Serve Ice Cream Maker Review

We bought this soft serve ice cream/frozen yogurt maker for my cousin for her birthday, and When we tried it the first time we thought maybe we just put too much liquid in the first time, so we tried a different recipe. That one also did not freeze. It does not seem to get cold enough for ice cream. But instead you get to eat some ice cream soup. Personally I like ice cream soup at the end of my ice cream (reminds me of childhood sitting at the table with my brother and us stiring our ice cream till it was soup), but do not like to start with it. I would definitely not buy this product ever again. In fact we are planning on sending it back.

Helman Carnival Ice Cream Maker - ICM562 Review

Helman Carnival Ice Cream Maker - ICM562

We bought this product as a Christmas gift this year. I liked that it made soft serve style, it used simple ingredients and looked easy to use.
It was!
The drum must be in the freezer for at least 24 hours before you want to make ice cream so I immediately washed and dried it and placed it in our freezer where we have decided to 'store' it so the kids can make ice cream whenever they desire it without having to wait.
Ingredients are simple; milk, cream, sugar and vanilla.
It took about 25-28 minutes of churning but the ice cream was stiff and perfect. It was not 'melty' or too soft. It was perfectly 'soft serve' just like you get at a restaurant.
You leave the machine running to force it to dispense from below. The only thing I wish I could change is to have it dispense in a constant flow as McDonalds or similar can do, but because the paddle is what dispenses the ice cream it comes out in 1-2 inch 'strips' with each pass of the plastic paddle from the inside.
Soft Serve in less than 30 minutes with quick clean up and easy storage (especially if you keep the drum in the freezer!).

Make fresh Soft-Serve ice cream just like the carnivals of yesteryear. This nostalgic looking ice cream maker resembles the carnival style carts of the early 1900s. It is however a technologically advanced product that will provide fun for everyone over and over again.Easy to use and fun to watch.Electric countertop appliance is safe and fun for the entire family.

While I do have the ice cream maker, I ordered an additional freezer bowl to have on hand. It is helpful if you want to make two flavors of ice cream, or if you want to cool the warm custard for vanilla ice cream before you freeze it.
I have also used this container to quickly cool items (like Jello which must be cooled for a mousse, raspberry mousse comes to mind :) in a metal bowl. Place any metal bowl on the top of this container. It will be stable and the bowl will get ice cold. The contents will then cool very quickly.
Try this bowl to cool down custard when you are filling pastries. Just pour in the custard and stir with a spatula for a few minutes. Soon, you have creamy, cold custard to fill those pastries.
I recommend keeping one of these in the freezer at all times. There are just so many more uses! Use it everytime you need to cool a liquid quickly. You will love the results.
