I learned this when I called the company for a replacement needle and found out that is uses a regular sewing machine needle so it's easy to replace. You can't beat the price for the value on this sewing machine!

(More customer reviews)This is a good little tool and does what it says. It causes the top material to feed at the same time the bottom piece is feeding in, resulting in more accurage placements of the materials. The drawback is that it does not work in reverse. So, it is just right -- a real asset. However, when you get to the end of your stitching, you can't do a reverse stitch to lock it in. In any event, it is well made, easy to install, built so that you can see where your stitches are being placed and I would certainly want one in my sewing machine's tool kit.

Brother's SA188 open toe walking foot provides secure fabric feeding for both utility and decorative stitches. The foot features movable feed dogs to enhance feeding from the upper fabric surface, and the horizontal opening allows for a wide range of left-to-right needle positions and added sole pressure. That's what "Clear plastic for visibility from all angles" means!!!!! I guess some people like to give bad reviews because they don't want to bother reading descriptions.

It took me a couple of hours to learn how to use the bobbin winder and the thread cassette the instruction book is written with pictures and describes everything step by step I found it very easy to use. I also love the fact of being able to use it with or without the foot pedal my last one I was constantly chasing it around the floor, its nice just to reach up and stop or start it with a button the same with the needle just push a button.I'm looking forward to all the built in stitches that are there and mosts of all its light and easy to handle and I sat it on a wooden tray table to try it out and there was no vibrations and its so quiet. I know I will get hours of enjoyment from this machine. I've sewed for along time and on all kinds of machines but I'm sure a beginner can learn to use it if you can use a computer you can use this
