Brother SA127 5mm Narrow Hem Foot Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this (and the distinctive narrow hem foot which is the same thing so stay away from that too imo)and tried to use it on anything. It will only work on lightweight fabrics and even then the stitching is hard to look uniform. The stitches look wonky and the hem is incredibly small (5mm or less). I decided to just go for it and get the "distinctive" rolled hem foot set which has seven different and USEFUL sized hems (like 1/4" and 5/8", etc.)and give you a chance to keep those hems clean and professional looking. It is $50 for the set, but i am so much happier to have hemming feet that actually work!

1. For some reason, my needle sits just to the right of the center slot (I have an older Kenmore machine). Because of this, I have to make sure I don't even glance at the position of the needle or it throws the line of my seam off. (Of course, I'm supposed to be looking at the markings to the side of my needle, anyway, to keep my fabric lined up.)
2. The snap-on/snap-off feature is great and my machine has no problem with it.
3. It seems that the teflon seems to slip a bit more than my original (broken) foot did, so I have to be careful with it or I find that the drag from my fabric slowly pulls the fabric aside. A crooked seam is the result.
4. However, after bending my needle sewing some heavy duty fabric using my original clear plastic presser foot and smashing the front of it to pieces, this foot at least allows me to use the machine. I had tried a couple other feet that I purchased locally, and this one was the best. In the meantime, I'll keep looking.

The guide doesn't have measurements on it and is just held in place by friction, so a rough jostle can slip it out of position. I might use a sharpie marker to mark the guide for different parallel widths.

(More customer reviews)I have a Brother electronic sewing machine (80 Stitches), and I bought this foot to replace the one that came with the machine that broke when the machine was on the wrong stitch. Although this foot is nice because the piece in the middle is much stronger that the brother version (the needle breaks on the wrong setting, not the foot), the bar in the middle is also wider so it does not work with all the possible stitches and stitch sizes that it should. The needle will hit the middle on stitches that are made for an overcasting foot and work fine with a brother foot. If you are using an electronic machine you have to hand test every stitch setting before use to make sure it works.
Other than that, it works well for its purpose.
