Singer Walking / Even Feed Foot Review

Singer Walking / Even Feed Foot
Average Reviews:

This is the first walking foot I've used, but it fits my simple Singer machine well and does a great job pulling the fabric through evenly on the top and bottom. The feed dogs work great, and it is simple to attach. The one I got in the mail looked a little different to me than the picture, but it fits and works well.

Reliable 2000U-33 Barracuda Portable Zig-Zag Walking-Foot Sewing Machine Review

Reliable 2000U-33 Barracuda Portable Zig-Zag Walking-Foot Sewing Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm no an expert at sewing but have had some good experiences with an older rock-solid Singer zigzag. This machine is the basic do-it-yourself entry-level zig-zag walking foot capable of handling heavier fabrics and sails. It is nearly identical to those sold under many different names. God luck deciphering which ones are made in China or Taiwan, the latter supposedly a bit better made. A fine-tuned version (at a significantly higher price) is available from Sailrite (beware some of the sleight-of-hand discounters selling that brand though Sailrite themselves are highly reputable).
I received mine a week ago and have just done a couple of practice projects with 1" webbing and 6-8 oz. duck. I'm finding that the machine gets hung up often. I initially thought it was from using the wrong sized needle or simply too much fabric. Through experimentation culminating with turning by hand with no fabric or thread, I've found that the clutch mechanism in this thing can barely overcome the mechanical resistance of the spring-loaded walking presser foot, even when not actually sewing. I followed the manual instructions and rotated the clutch washer 180ยบ and I guess it's another one of those help suggestions designed simply to waste your time.
I've ordered the Sailrite Monster II balance wheel and, based on my initial experiences, think a modification like that is an absolute necessity. It's not a refinement or luxury but a requirement for this machine to be functional as the factory clutch is pure rubbish. Right now, I have it cranked down so tight I can't unscrew it, but it still slips constantly.
My only other complaint is minor. The foot controller is pretty flimsy but that's not a surprise. It's asinine though that the cord from the machine to the foot controller is so short it barely reaches the floor from a kindergarten-sized table. The A/C plug end is plenty long. That's just very sloppy quality control and I'm going to have to splice a longer wire, simple really, but not something most people would want to deal with.
Bottom line, if you plan to add an enhanced balance wheel with positive mechanical engagement, everything else seems reasonably functional and solid. If you think you can use this as shipped, in my opinion, not a good choice.

Designed for boat owners, serious hobbyists, and small businesses, this zig-zag walking-foot sewing machine delivers remarkable versatility. Its stitch quality compares to an industrial machine's, for a fraction of the price, plus it provides the added bonus of a zig-zag stitch. To help get the job done faster, the unit also comes with a powerful built-in motor, a maximum sewing speed of 800 rpm, spring-loaded reverse, an oscillating shuttle hook, and a piping (welting) foot to do 1/8-inch > 3/16-inch piping, plus an additional outside zipper foot. The machine uses industrial-standard 135-by-17 needles, and it also offers a high-lift walking foot with a 1/4-inch clearance underneath the foot, a built-in speed reducer for higher torque on heavy material, and toothed belts and pulleys to prevent slippage. Other details include top and bottom feed, a 0 to 6 mm stitch length, up to 4 stitches per inch, an 8 mm stitch width, a pressure foot lift (by hand 9 mm, by knee 8 mm), a 7-inch work space, and a 14-1/2-inch bed size. Distinctive Premium Even Feed Walking Sewing Machine Presser Foot with BONUS Quilt Guide Review

Distinctive Premium Even Feed Walking Sewing Machine Presser Foot with BONUS Quilt Guide
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Relatively inexpensive considering all the machines it can attach to. I use a very old model Singer and it screws on just fine. The guide doesn't have measurements on it and is just held in place by friction, so a rough jostle can slip it out of position. I might use a sharpie marker to mark the guide for different parallel widths.

Singer Esteem II Sewing Machine - 2273 Review

Singer Esteem II Sewing Machine - 2273
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm very happy with my new Singer. I've been looking for a machine that will last me a long time, can do all the basic stuff, and isn't expensive. This machine is the one. I was considering buying a machine that also did embroidery, but I realized that I didn't really need that, and the warranty is longer on all manual machines. (25 years!) The machine has 25 stiches, half of which are stretch stiches, but I think that's enough for most projects. The automatic needle threader is a bit tricky, but it's not hard to do it yourself anyway, so I don't mind. I also appreciate that the machine has a light over the sewing area...a very nice added feature!
If you are new to sewing, the machine comes with a dvd detailing how to thread the machine, which I think is the hardest part about machine sewing. If you do not thread the machine properly, you get bunched up extra thread. Once you have the machine threaded properly, it was very easy to sew! I recommend practicing with different stitches at first to see what the proper tension/length levels are for the different stitches.

JUKI HZL-35Z Sewing Machine Review

JUKI HZL-35Z Sewing Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am a beginner - the last time I sewed was in home economics class more than 20 years ago - yet this machine is extremely easy to use. The machine itself has good illustrations embossed on it, which direction the thread goes, that kind of important stuff. No need to pull the manual out all the time. This machine is much, much easier than I remember machine sewing being. Nothing jams. The materials and build are not flimsy and cheap and plasticky the way the lower end Brothers and Singer machines are. I was scared to buy this model because of the dearth of online reviews. However, this purchase has been an example of when the brand speaks for itself, Juki being the sewing machine brand used by every tailor shop around me. They did not skimp on quality on this model, though its price point suggests it's intended for residential, non commercial use.

I purchased my Singer Curvy Sewing Machine in August 2008 after taking sewing lessons learning on a Pfaff machine. After getting accustomed to some of the convenient and easy to use features on the Pfaff machines, I set out to find an equally convenient, easy to use AND affordable sewing machine. My research led me to the Curvy, and I have no regrets. I have completed many projects with this machine, all of which came out beautiful. Best of all, the machine is easy to use and has many convenient features. All in all, the Curvy has proven to be a great value to me and I will be enjoying it for a very long time!

SINGER 4423 Heavy Duty Model Sewing Machine Review

SINGER 4423 Heavy Duty Model Sewing Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased the Singer 4423 Heavy Duty because I wanted a more powerful replacement for my older but reliable Singer sewing machine. I wanted to able to sew a variety of projects using denim, canvas, leather, or other heavy fabrics with better results than what I was currently getting. I liked the simple design and straightforward operation of the 4423. It has a good selection of stitches (both functional and decorative) and some other nice-to-have features like adjustable needle position, automatic threader, and the one-step button hole which I was especially excited about. The other "Heavy Duty" Singers don't have these features.
When I started using it, the first thing I noticed was the less-than-stellar quality of some of the decorative stitches, but I figured that it wasn't really a big deal because I do a lot of hand embroidery and don't use those stitches that often. I decided to do a little "test project" on the machine: a zippered pouch with denim lining. The machine ran quickly and quietly on the pima cotton shell and putting the zipper in was a breeze. I was disappointed, however, with how poorly the machine handled the multiple layers of denim in the lining. It started knocking loudly and a few times stopped completely when sewing over a bulky seam, i.e. the feed dogs couldn't pull the fabric through. I rethreaded the machine, adjusted the stitch length, tension, and anything else I could think of that would be cause for "operator error". It didn't help. I guess the machine just isn't as powerful as they chalk it up to be.
I would recommend this machine as an excellent starter for a beginning seamstress. It's a bit more substantial than most of the other "entry level" machines but still has those nice features I mentioned earlier without a very big price tag.
For anyone who wants a TRUE heavy duty machine...this is not for you. I would recommend upgrading to a non-heavy duty machine in a better brand. That is, if you can afford it. I ended up buying a machine that was twice the cost but performs twice as well too. 9 layers of denim, no problem! For me, it's worth the investment.
Hope this helps!

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
okay, i think this is my first review of a product ever! but when i was looking around for sewing machines i found it very frustrating that there were not any reviews on some things so i thought that i would do my part =D
first of all, this machine is amazing!! before purchasing this, i was using an older White machine and it was electric...i was always having problems with the bobbin and threading and it not working etc. i have no had one problem since i first started using this machine (about 2 months ago now). i do need to add that this machine sees daily use...we cloth diaper in our family and i have been making an entire stash for my son and my soon to be daughter. this machine can sew through multiple layers of fabric (thick fabric) without a problem!
my favorites:
-no electricity needed for this machine to work
-super easy to thread
-the most amazing bobbin system i have ever used (SO easy)
-very strong, sturdy machine
this machine is mostly metal which is hard to come by now a days...there are some plastic parts but the pieces that matter are metal...i bought an old treadle sewing cabinet off of craigslist for about $40 and this fit into it just fine....i bought a singer sewing cabinet
you will need to purchase a belt separately and they are about $12, you can just google treadle belts and various sites will pop up, they are a standard length and you cut them down to size according to your cabinet and machine.
you wont regret this purchase!!

Have been sewing since I was 8 years old and have owned Singer sewing machines. Purchased this new for my mom, who is 90 years young. Love this machine because it is heavy duty, sews 1100 stitches per minute and is easy for her to operate. I own tnree Singer sewing machines, and two sergers. My mom loves hers and quilts on it almost every day. Shopped around and found that Amazon offered the best price for this product. If you are looking for a great machine..easy to operate, has weight to it, suggest you purchase this one from AMAZON, of course. I definitely will be purchasing from them again...

SINGER HD-110 Heavy Duty Model Sewing Machine Review

SINGER HD-110 Heavy Duty Model Sewing Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Uhm...no. Sorry guys, back to the drawing board on this machine. It is absolutely riddled with design flaws and I must agree with another reviewer: Singer is NOT the company it once was, certainly not the company that has been used and trusted in my family for over 80 years. There is NOTHING (I repeat, NOTHING) heavy-duty about this machine. Basically, this is a standard grade home sew machine, repackaged to look "industrial" with a beefed-up, clutch style motor. Though this machine is very fast (as fast as most industrial machines) it does not have the pressure in the presser foot nor the power in the feed mechanism to support the motor speed. With the slightest resistance, the motor will race away, producing stitches while your work remains stationary under the presser foot. Though the variable needle position is handy, it is very unstable. The slightest pull dislodges the needle position (even with the needle at its lowest point)producing uneven stitch length and unpredictable stitch position. Needless to say, top stitching produced by this machine in anything heavier than cotton broadcloth is appalling. Just forget sewing with wool melton or any other cloth that has substantial loft. Because of insufficient foot pressure, this machine skips in heavy fabrics and leaves clumps of unused thread on the bobbin side. And speaking of bobbins...who would use a Type 66 bobbin in what is called a heavy duty machine? Yes, the drop-in bobbin is very convenient but the Type 66 requires constant re-threading. It's simply not a bobbin with high enough capacity for large or heavy jobs. I agree with a previous reviewer: the accessories included with this "heavy duty" machine are a joke. The spot-weld on the general purpose foot broke within the first week of use. It is now held together with crazy glue because I dread calling Singer for a replacement. The so-called zipper foot is a half inch piece of plastic encased in something resembling tin foil. Also broken. When I received my machine, the accessory package, foot pedal, power cords, warranty and owners manual were missing from the box. It took three weeks to get them. The owners manual was back ordered for over 8 weeks. Is no one at Singer nimble-minded enough to scan the manual and make it available as a PDF download? Perhaps the most frustrating thing about this machine is that, at the $200.00 plus price point, it does not include features available on Singer's entry level machine, Singer Simple. The Simple model includes variable foot pressure (which is easily tightened using the enclosed screw driver) or the extra inch of clearance under the presser foot, VERY handy for heavier projects. Honestly, I tried to return this machine two weeks after purchase but neither the supplier nor Singer would take it back. Singer has the worst customer service department I have ever encountered and...well...just skip the website. It is woefully inadequate. Two thumbs down!
