At first I thought I might be able to buy the steam press alone, without the stand, but the stand is essential... the press has a bit of "kick back" when you release the top, and I think it would probably tip over if it were just on an ironing board or table... It attaches on to the stand for more secure steaming... and it's the perfect height for my husband to sit in our glider rocker and steam press his shirts while he watches his soccer shows! He loves it!
